Meet our Instructors

Our talented Queen of the Prairie Belly Dance Festival instructors will be bringing their sought after styles and techniques to Des Moines, Iowa. All workshops held at Mainframe Studios, Salsa Des Moines ste 108, 900 Keosauqua Way, Des Moines, IA 50309

Based in Casa Grande, Arizona, Krisenna has performed and taught in various places in the U.S. Throughout her career, Krisenna has studied with multiple teachers and is a certified Hot Pot/UNMATA Style ITS instructor. Krisenna is able to flow between Oriental and tribal fusion styles making her a versatile and sought after performer and instructor. She is also the founder of the major Middle Eastern dance event, Amethyst Dance Festival held annually in Arizona.

Innah is a professional Middle Eastern dance artist and an award winning performer. Her awards include Bellydance Nationals Soloist (Winner, 2010), Queen Of Raqs Sharqi (3rd place, 2013), Taxim category, Bellydancer of the Universe (1st-runner up, 2009), USA Bellydance Queen (3rd place soloist, 2010).

Innah is the director of Innah’s Middle Eastern Troupe and has being teaching Egyptian style bellydance since 2003. She considers her troupe a family. Her favorite bellydance style is Oriental and Tarab. Beyond bellydance, Innah’s dance training includes ballet, pointe, jazz, and latin.

Sara of Slovenia is a multi-award winning performer who has placed first in major competitions throughout Europe and the Middle East. Sara is a protege of the legendary Egyptian superstar, Randa Kamal.  A sought after instructor in Europe, Sara has been studying Middle Eastern dance for 18 years. In addition to her mentor, Randa Kamal, she has learned technique from many notable instructors and is pleased to share her knowledge with us. Sara has taken lessons in the Arabic language and has spent time traveling in the Middle East. She is passionate about teaching and dancing.

Competition 

April 27, 2019 - Saturday 7 PM, Stillwell Auditorium, 1601 Vine street, West Des Moines, Iowa 50265

Criteria: 

  • Up to 4 minutes of Middle Eastern music. All music is due by April 14th. 

  • Props are allowed excluding live animals or open flame

  • Competition participants must register for VIP package or a minimum of two workshops

  • Solo Competition

  • Entry fee - $50, includes show admission

  • To reserve your spot, please submit your payment and email your legal name, stage name, name of the song and short bio to innahdance@gmail.com

  • Queen receives a $100 cash prize, tiara, sash and a prize package

  • First and second runners up receive tiara, sash and a prize package

Ticket allows admittance to both the competition and the show. 

To be eligible to perform each performer MUST purchase the minimum of TWO workshops. All performers must purchase show tickets, excluding the VIP package holders and competitors. 

All soloists and troupes interested in performing in the show, please send your legal names, stage names, music, and general performance information no later than April 19 to innahdance@gmail.com. 

VIP package holders are guaranteed performance spots. All others will be space available.

Oriental Workshop with Sara of Slovenia

This workshop will include some fabulous techniques used in Oriental style as well as some of the artistic techniques used in classic and modern Oriental. We will learn a choreography that can be used as a show or a competition routine. The main idea of the workshop is to also introduce unique combos that can be personalized to your style.  

Showstopping Drum Solo Choreography Workshop with Krisenna Zipporah

4/27 : 1:00-2:30 PM

In this class we will learn a fun, new and challenging drum solo choreography. We will drill some combos of intricate isolation patterns, which can easily  be tweaked and placed in other drum solos. Krisenna will discuss musicality and why the movements were chosen for a particular part of the drum solo which will allow the student to either perform this drum solo choreography or take the information to create their own. 

Mergence Workshop with Innah Raks

4/27: 2:45 - 3:45 PM

Innah will teach a short mergence to a modern Arabic song. She will use classical dance techniques to highlight the extension in the dance moves. Learn how to captivate your audience from the moment you step onstage with Innah's beautiful entrance techniques. 

Unmata style ITS with Krisenna Zipporah

A modern and powerful ITS Level 1 and 2 class featuring combos that are great for team building and guarantee a fun and exciting environment. You will come away with new steps and technique and a deeper appreciation of the musical connection.

Shaabi Workshop with Sara of Slovenia

This modern, fun and upbeat song and choreography can be used in part or whole to bring joy to audiences at shows or haflas. Sara will translate the meaning, mood, gestures and Shaabi styling to create a deeper understanding of the culture and how to enjoy it in your dance and allow your audience to do the same.
